Was talking with a friend recently, and se pointed out that the affini themselves would probably be pretty weak to *armed* terrans, between fire/energy weapons & literal herbicides. Their main advantage in direct combat would be their incredible space superiority

But also: they could do great fuckin, horror movie style things with like, hiding in vents and picking off some squad 1-by-1, etc! Really emphasizing the psychological aspects of it!

kink writing; Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding

I wonder exactly what the first contact procedure the affini have is...

Prolly starts with some showcase of a large-compared-to-their-target space armada, followed by transmission of suggested terms of surrender

I think they'd give their target at least 2-3 chances to peacefully submit (including any negotiation that does happen) before actually commencing military action

Followed by real speedy annihilation of the target's reachable fleet

kink writing; Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding

Affini boarding ops don't use boarding pods. Their ships have massive prehensile vines that grab the enemy ship, and additional, hollow vines that drill through the hull to allow access to it for the affini marines.

This is because they're very extra & really wanna hammer home the "we out-tech you by 1000s of years fuckers" point!

kink writing; Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding

Generally, after a human (or other xeno) has been captured, they're kept sedated (maybe in an individual life support container? that's kinda hot ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ ) till they're delivered to their new owner.

I haven't decided how pets are allocated yet tho, might just be some sorta lottery or queue in most cases?

Obviously exceptions can be made, like how Nikhila pulled a few strings in Affini Compact Intelligence to make sure Akash got Elvira

kink writing; Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding

Once a would-be pet is captured, they'll get a thorough medical examination (usually while sedated), and the affini will mark down any special care this pet will require

It's at this stage also when any available databases from non-affini orgs on the individual will also be searched, in order to build as comprehensive of a profile as possible; in order to better domesticate them

These might include ships' logs, job records, surveillance, etc

kink writing; Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding

Once a civilization has been subdued militarily, searching records becomes a lot easier, of course, and they'll often start to build profiles of individuals who aren't marked to imminently become a pet too. Yk, just in case (also for targeted advertising to try and get people to volunteer, prolly!)

kink writing; Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding

The Affini Compact, culturally, def thinks of themselves as Doing Good by domesticating other species. They see it as their duty, to protect and nurture 'lesser' species.

Of course, this nurturing conveniently never leads to independence for the subjects!

The most any given species could hope for would be to be given limited autonomy in a few noncritical areas of policy. The Affini Compact is very 'hands on' in it's governance of subjects!

kink writing; Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding

I haven't decided too much about the actual political & economic structure of the Affini Compact, beyond "effectively post scarcity".

I think that affini society is actually generally very egalitarian, provided you're an affini! They didn't build a massive space civilization spanning galaxies just to be miserable, after all

Their space navy is prolly fairly closely integrated with civilian star vessels โ€” think starfleet from star trek

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: implant edition

The Affini Compact Haustoric Implant is an absolute marvel of biotechnology & is immensely adaptable to new physiology โ€” usually only taking 3-5 years of development per species, starting from the instance of the first bioscan of that species

Generally, it's placed in a minimally invasive surgery, entering at the base of the neck. In some cases, esp those where faster response is needed, a more grown implant will be placed via open surgery

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: implant edition

The implant itself is a small, highly flexible lump of plant matter, filled with various complex neural pathways, glands, xenodrug production organs, and various other exotic structures

In most (human) cases, the implant is inserted via a small incision near the base of the neck. The majority of the implant is positioned near the subject's brain stem, while a some is positioned in a 'tail' along the spinal cord

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: implant edition

After the initial implantation, and the introduction of several xenodrugs which signal the implant to start growing, it will start to integrate into the subject's metabolic systems. This initial integration takes no more than a few hours, during which the subject is usually kept sedated.

Once a metabolic link has been established, the implant will start to grow into the subject's central nervous system, starting with the brain stem

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: implant edition

As the implant grows, it begins to more directly exert control over the subject's bodily systems, especially endocrine, nervous, & muscular systems. This initial link with the systems takess 1 to 3 days

Various tendrils of plant matter wrap themselves along nerve pathways. During this period, the subject will have impaired coordination & feel tired & disoriented. Many pets are given higher xenodrug doses during this for comfort

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: implant edition

In some rare cases, when waiting for the implant to grow is not an option, it can be grown partially in advance, and then implanted onto the subject's nervous system more directly

The implants themselves are grown from specially treated affini tissue. This is in almost all cases tissue from the affini to who the subject belongs. This is for both cultural reasons & to enable stronger sensory, etc responses to their owner

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: implant edition

The affini implants are controllable either by the injection of special control chemicals, or by remote (including complex multistage authentication)

Their abilities include, (xeno)drug dosing, hormonal adjustments, some mental modification (changing moods, stopping or starting certain thoughts, etc. Not able to override the subject's thoughts entirely by itself), & limited muscle control overrides, among others

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: implant edition

The implant can be altered or removed within the first several days after implantation, but this gets progressively more impossible as time goes on. By the 3rd month after implantation, it is impossible to remove without additional months of suppressant medication & dedicated care

Implants needing adjustment or even removal after the first week is a vanishingly rare event, however

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: implant edition

Pets who have had the implant installed report increased feelings of peacefulness, contentment, submission to their owners, & increased sensitivity to both their senses & xenodrugs.

Behaviorally, affini researchers have found that installing the implant 0.5 to 2.5 weeks after a human's first xenodrug dose is generally the quickest way to have them adjust to the experience. There is nothing strictly preventing earlier implantation, however

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: implant edition

In some cases implants are installed soon after a human is delivered to their owner, as a safety measure. The implant also provides a sophisticated tracking mechanism which is far harder to suppress than those in the cuffs & collars

Keeping a human's xenodrug regime current is crucial, even with the automatic balancing that the implant provides

An owner must regularly adjust dosages, in occurrence with their pet's mood, behavior, etc

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: terran rebel edition

Thinking maybe instead of just calling terran rebels "Free Terrans" or "Free Terranism/ists" or w/e, I should give them a proper name. But all I can come up with is "Terran Liberation Front" which is just, even more generic lmao

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: terran rebel edition

I suppose there'd probably be a lot of different splinters of the remainder of the terran military in the wake of Terra's surrender, as well as different groups which start resisting independent of military involvement.

Maybe Free Terranism could be the overall ideology they espouse, and then have each group have its own name?

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: terran rebel edition

Yeah ok I like this. Especially as largescale organized resistance is squashed, maintaining a single cohesive organization would become impossible quickly, esp over interstellar distances

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: terran rebel edition

The smallest cells might not even have any sort of designation really, and would be called something like "Spirit of Jupiter Group" in counter insurgency documents? Or even just "Rebel Group 36210-B" or similarly arbitrary designations...

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: space war edition

Over the ~3 year war of terran pacification, only ~200 affini ships were lost, mostly small & unarmed transports, logistics/supply craft. Less than 5 affini warships were destroyed in action, all light classes. Ex:

Jeluian โ†’ lost to a terran suicide attack in which a terran heavy cruiser engaged its jump drive while grappled to the affini craft. No terran survivors, minimal affini survivors. The remaining battlegroup was quickly captured

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: space war edition

After the Affini Compact realized that Terra was willing to commit to such (self) destructive tactics when cornered, doctrine was adjusted to avoid leading the terrans to believe they were in truly unwinnable situations until their ships were entirely disabled & inoperative

This added several months to the war, all in all, but the Compact is unwilling to risk such increased causalities just to move a timeline up a few months.

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

The affini have a cultural predilection towards bureaucracy! It's not uncommon to see space fax machine equivalents in affini spaces โ€” just for fun!!

Paper, pens, pencils, clipboards, etc are also fairly common in affini space for similar reasons. To affini culture, there's just often something special about getting your pet to sign away their free will w/ paper & pencil! Tablets are just as good, but less visceral at times ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

For some affini, their idea of a good time is filling out forms in duplicate or even triplicate before sending them on to the appropriate location!

Unlike most terran bureaucracy, affini bureaucracy is swift, efficient, and fair!

At least, in most cases! It has been known to happen that someone gets on the very wrong side of an affini bureaucrat and soon finds themself having been approved for immediate domestication~

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

Of course, there are times that an individual in a pet species may simply get confused with the intricacies of affini forms & documentation! In those cases, the individuals in question are strongly encouraged to ask local affini legal aid or similar to explain it to them, which they'll do happily!

They may also explain that if they became pets, they'd just have one last form they'd ever need to think about~

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini origins

The affini homeworld has at least one other species of sophonts beyond the affini and they are cute bee people that also got very domesticated!

As a consequence, in some affini languages the most direct translation of their word for alien is "creature like our bee pets".

Languages common further from the very heart of the core systems generally directly translate alien into "pet" or "cute pet", however!

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini symbology/language

The Affini Compact has many (many) languages, as they exist across nearly a dozen galaxies & have 15000 years of history with 1000s of pet species. One symbol common in terran spaces, however, is this one, a general symbol of the Affini Compact.

Many different branches of affini society in terran space use variants of this symbol (usually changing the center, dot, or lower chevron) to indicate their occupation

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: space war edition

@GlitchyRobo I got introduced to your story through Fluxom's twitter when they wrote up a fan fiction about it <.< I'm literally a vacuum in need of more content AAAA I love it!!! โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

Have you considered how the Affini Compact would go about pacifying a planet? (not that I'm writing a fanfiction about it or anything. I totally didn't get inspired and wrote up 5,2k words in an evening or anything. <.<;;;)

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: space war edition

@Pryxes dfjghskdjfhgd thanks aa!!

They'd destroy or incapacitate (w/ as low casualties as possible via boarding techniques, etc) any orbital defenses, and maybe do limited orbital strikes against any ground defenses. If a planet doesn't simply surrender, they'll eventually land soldiers & war machines on the planet, and invade that way

This is risky, because the affini physical form is kinda vulnerable to a lot of weaponry, being plants

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: space war edition

@Pryxes A lot of the planets in the Terran Accord at least were fairly vulnerable to siege tactics, being very reliant on imports from other worlds & stations

Terra is a noticeable exception, and prolly took the lives of at least a few affini soldiers simply due to the scale of invading a home planet

feel free to message us with any other questions btw! we love talking about our own stuff lmao. We also have discord

also, re fanfic: ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ !

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: space war edition

@GlitchyRobo OH? I'd be happy to join and if you'd like defo would show you the thing I have so far. I donno how well it portrays Affini invasions so I tried to be a bit vague on how the details happened :P

re: Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

@GlitchyRobo Oh gods, they're the elves from Hilda.

re: Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

@pillowcat kjdfhkjsdhfsd fuck you're right aaaaaaaaa

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

@GlitchyRobo Must be a shame for you, then. Imagine developing a bureaucracy kink, only to never have to do paperwork again.

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

@pillowcat @GlitchyRobo counterpoint, getting a bunch of fun bureaucracy papers only to realize that they come together to be a fancy legalese way of getting asked out on a date by your mistress

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

@fluxom_alt @GlitchyRobo Is the date just helping your Mistress with paperwork?

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

@pillowcat @GlitchyRobo It might be, but I'm pretty sure she'd consider me laying in her lap all day as being very important assistance.

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

@fluxom_alt @pillowcat It's very important to help your owner focus by cuddling in their lap imo!!!!

Also i'm sure there could be bureaucracy (for fun!) that pets can do instead of just bureaucracy (for serious things) that affini and not-pet individuals do!

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

@GlitchyRobo @pillowcat walking into city hall and pushing the big kirby button

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

@fluxom_alt @pillowcat gods this has got me thinking. What would *affini* entertainment media be like?? Presumably a lot of focus on bravely domesticating highly resistant xenos but like, what else??? What would their games and books and space tv shows etc etc etc look like!

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

@GlitchyRobo @pillowcat given the amount of adults that I knew growing up who'd work 8 to 7 in the legal field and then go home and relax by watching court procedurals I'd imagine there'd be a strong core line of tv shows that are court procedural dramas

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

@fluxom_alt @pillowcat sdjkfhsdkjhf that's vvvv good. The affini protags can have cute pets for comic relief & to assuage the legal tension

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

@GlitchyRobo @pillowcat watching NCIS but occasionally someone pets their dog, just translate that directly and there you go

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

@fluxom_alt @pillowcat The season finale has a pet running away or being 'rescued' or something like that; followed by a big teaming up of the previously antagonistic legal factions to get the cute pet back where they belong!!

(And also get lots of new pets djkfhsjkhfs)

(Could even give them fun mock trials maybe???? sdkjfhsdjkfhskjdhfsdjfk)

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

@GlitchyRobo @fluxom_alt All we really wanna see is an Affini adaptation of Night Court.

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

@GlitchyRobo @fluxom_alt (That's not true; we want to see well more than just that; damned turn-of-phrases making us lie.)

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

@GlitchyRobo @fluxom_alt Working with pet species must be to them like working on set with animals is to us.

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

@fluxom_alt @GlitchyRobo Filling out paperwork that really pushes your logical reasoning skills to the test.

Nevermind that you're doing this paperwork in a restaurant, or that the paperwork was found on the back of the paper lining to your food tray. Mistress says you're her clever little Terran, and that's what matters to you.

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

@pillowcat @fluxom_alt aaaaaaaaaaa my heart!!!!

"wow you filled that one out all by yourself! I'm so proud of you dear~"

dhjfsjkdhf

i mean to be fair thinking does get a lot harder on many xenodrugs!!!

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini fun facts

@fluxom_alt @GlitchyRobo There's not really any other way for us pet species to help, honestly. Obviously any self-respecting Affini can file paperwork on their own, but they find it adorable when their pets offer assistance. Whether that be in the form of actually filling things out, or just being a soft cute thing to pet while they work, it's all the same as for them.

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini origins

@GlitchyRobo i keep wondering what would happen if they encountered dragons, depending on the dragons!

i can imagine them making a mutual pact with a species that was equally caretake-y, dominant and advanced, with whomst they could share tips

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini origins

@monsterblue The closest they've prolly come to parity with another civ in their 1000s of years of space history would be one of their earlier extra-galactic expansions, in which they found a civ that had expanded into at least a third of their own galaxy and had kinda decent tech

They still lost & got (very) domesticated ofc, but it's prolly the longest fight the affini ever had!

Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini origins

@GlitchyRobo "Oh come now, we don't want to *fight*. We have our own equivalents of our... what do you call them? Florets? Here, look at this, isn't it cute."

*holds up kobold*

"Yip...?"

emeto, Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini origins

@GlitchyRobo Affini borrows kobold for a day, returns them to the dragon next day in an exasperated mood

"Augh! You call this domesticated? In one night alone, it ransacked my pantry, gorged itself on treats, threw up twice on the floor, then fell asleep on my reading material!"

"Yes. Have you never had cats?"

emeto, Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini origins

@monsterblue kobold,,, cute!!

re: Human Domestication Guide worldbuilding: affini origins
