> In his resignation letter, Bray said that “firing whistleblowers isn’t just a side-effect of macroeconomic forces, nor is it intrinsic to the function of free markets. It’s evidence of a vein of toxicity running through the company culture. I choose neither to serve nor drink that poison.”

Fuck YEAH! :blobcheer:

@mawr... but... qvitting rather than doing something about it?

@JulieSqveakaroo
When toxicity is systemic or coming from the top of a publicly traded company, sometimes the most effective thing you can do is quit with a big media splash.

Amazon is too big a company to be fixed from within. It needs to be split apart IMHO.

re: Amazon VP Tim Bray Resigns, Calls Company "Chickenshit" for Firing Protesting Workers

@mawr That is very possible, yeah...

@JulieSqveakaroo @mawr he did everything he could within management channels, and when that failed quit in protest rather than be party to it

@mawr actually impressive a VP would be so honest about the company he worked for and likely burning bridges. Good for them, I hope more follow their lead

re: Amazon VP Tim Bray Resigns, Calls Company "Chickenshit" for Firing Protesting Workers

@whiskeysailor Yeah, seriously. American corporate culture considers moves like these to be career-ending-- but these times are unprecedented. This is exactly the right time for a move like this.

re: Amazon VP Tim Bray Resigns, Calls Company "Chickenshit" for Firing Protesting Workers

@mawr @whiskeysailor Agitating over stuff happening in a totally unrelated part of the business is not seen as a legitimate kind pressure. They are easily sidelined. It’s a great reason to fire someone. Only when there’s a LOT of people agitating will it matter.

@mawr yelling “timbray” as a fuckload of trees fall down

@mawr Care to *really* come over to the workers' side, Tim? We need good engineers to build the kind of cooperatives that can put AMZN out of business.
